Maintenance Access

Installation
2026

Maintenance Access considers infrastructure as a network of hidden systems that transport, filter and circulate through buildings, sustaining them beyond what is immediately visible. Huang draws a parallel between these systems and fungal mycelial networks, which connect, exchange and decompose beneath the surface of an ecosystem.

The fungal forms within the installation are cast from real mushrooms and re-formed through industrial materials including concrete, metal resin, plaster and flocking. Across pipes, filters, architectural fragments and mechanical structures, biological and infrastructural languages begin to overlap.

The work imagines an environment in which systems appear capable of adapting to, sustaining and reorganising one another, raising questions about what forms of maintenance might continue beyond direct human control.
